26 Days Of Christmas - Day #21: Batman!

Today's gift idea, we will look at entertainment.   Today, we'll focus on the newly released movie The Dark Knight Rises, which became available at retail outlets and online on 12/04/2012.

The Dark Knight Rises continues the Batman saga begun with Batman Begins and continued through The Dark Knight.   This trilogy's incarnation of Batman may seem different than the character played by Adam West, or the myriad of actors who portrayed him during the 1980's & 1990's, but that's intended to convey his crime fighting.

Some folks have seen it, some have not, so I will not focus on the plot or any spoilers here.   However, you'd be batty not to take advantage of the opportunity to pick this up for the Batman fan on your shopping list.

There are many formats available for this movie, which can suit many budgets.   The basic form, on DVD, which starts, this week, around $14.99.  Blu-ray copies start a little higher, with extra features, bonus discs, store-specific promotional covers or bonuses, etc.   For instance, Best Buy offers a Blu-ray with DVD & digital copy in an exclusive steelbook case for $24.99 this week ($5 discount if pre-ordered and a copy of one of the previous movies was purchased)  Target's $24.99 version comes with an exclusive book. Walmart's exclusive is a "broken Batman mask"

As part of the Bat-promotion, most retailers are also discounting the first two films in the trilogy, .   There is also a trilogy pack which starts off around $18 for DVD, and about $28 for Blu-ray, containing all three films, plus some bonus features.

Economy value of this?   Opening week sales on movies tends to be the best time to purchase.   After Saturday (12/8/2012) they'll go back to their "regular" price for some time, with periodic promotions.  Unfortunately, you're not likely to see anything "this good" till after Christmas.    As a bonus, with Hanukkah starting on 12/8 this year, this may be the right time to pick this up as a gift, as well.    As a side note, the likelihood of finding a Blockbuster (or other rental facility) that will have pre-viewed copies for sale in time for Christmas is there, but not reliable.

I hate to say "buy it now!", but if you have a Batfan on your list, you have a couple days left to get this deal.

Check back tomorrow for another gift idea.
